On May 7th, the 2012 ‘Met Ball’ Costume Institute Gala will commence and for the first time in history, fashion lovers all across the globe can watch a live stream of the event’s Red Carpet, hosted by Vogue editor William Norwich and model Elettra Weidemann.

As is tradition, each designer will be accompanied by a high profile guest as his or her date who will wear the designer’s latest creations. This year, Joseph Altuzarra has chosen the Lana Del Rey to accompany him and his latest collection fits her “gangsta Nancy Sinatra” style perfectly.

Last year, the event saw the pairings of designers with some of music’s finest such as: Stella McCartney and Rihanna, and J.Mendel and Taylor Swift. Beyonce, Brooklyn Decker, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Hudson, Lea Michele and Sarah Jessica Parker also attended he A-list event.

With LDR in the mix this year, we can’t wait to see what other pairings will be made. Jennifer Lopez is also rumoured to perform at the event.

Norwich and Weidemann are set to speak with Carey Mulligan, Miuccia Prada, and Anna Wintour on the Red Carpet and fans can submit questions for these fashion icons via Twitter with the hashtag #MetQuestions.

The 2012 Met Gala will be streamed live on Amazon.com , Americanvogue.com and the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Official Website on Monday May 7th. Streaming begins at 6:30 EST/3:30 PST.
