KIIS FM’s 15th annual Wango Tango was full of laughs and performances during the concert at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California on Saturday, May 12th. Everyone from Carly Rae Jepsen to Maroon 5 made appearances as they each performed their sets in the blazing California sun while watching the crowds go wild and enduring deafening screams.
A full day of non-stop fun, Chiddy Bang, Wallpaper. Childish Gambino, Diggy Simmons and K’NAAN opened the concert as fans began to arrive and kept them content under the more popular fan favorites hit the stage. Big Sean, who in reality is ever so tiny hit the stage to perform Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On,’ which really got the crowd stirred up.
As the audience began to grow in capacity, Justin Bieber came on stage to introduce his new signee Carly Rae Jepsen, who was co-headlining the event. As usual, his pants were hanging dangerously low and after the paparazzi took about a thousand photos of JB’s butt once again, he said, “Carly Rae Jepsen is a girl I found in Canada, she has a song called ‘Call Me Maybe.’ Have you ever heard it?” She then made her way on stage to perform the hit single along with a few other songs.
The Wanted also created quite the applause as the five guys hit the stage to perform ‘All Time Low,’ ‘Lightning,’ ‘Chasing the Sun’ and ‘Glad You Came.’ The guys had “the best view in the house” and as anyone can imagine, they got quite the amount of applause from the fans but nothing near what JB received. You’ve got quite a bit further to climb guys!
Foster the People, J. Cole and B.o.B and also stopped by for performances. Do you think the fun stopped there? Pssh, of course not! Gym Class Heroes performed a stellar set as Travie McCoy and Neon Hitch performed ‘A*s Back Home’ before Adam Levine joined them for ‘Stereo Hearts.’ He also performed ‘Fighter’ and ‘Billionaire.’
Ryan Seacrest hit the scene later on in the day when the sun cooled down to host the show and signal the real start of Wango Tango. First up was Maroon 5 who performed ‘Sunday Morning’,’Harder to Breathe’ and ‘This Love’ before moving onto ‘Payphone’ with rapper extraordinaire Wiz Khalifa. They ended their set in a “Sexy” way with ‘Moves Like Jagger.’
The original Barbie Nicki Minaj delivered a memorable set as she offered a great deal of rap songs. Her backup dancers are a staple in her performances and they supported Minaj as she opened with ‘Roman Holiday’ and ‘Did It on Em’ in one of her favorite blonde wigs. She followed up with a medley of ‘I Am Your Leader’ and ‘Beez in the Trap’ sans 2 Chainz. Of course, she also performed fan favorites ‘Turn Me On,’ ‘Right By My Side,’ ‘Superbass’ and ‘Starships.’ Unfortunately, her pink microphone was having a bit of technical problems but the audience enjoyed it nevertheless.
We’ve developed quite the liking to Wiz Khalifa over these past few months and when he appeared on stage, we couldn’t help but kick back and take in the rhymes while he performed ‘When I’m Gone,’ ‘No Sleep,” “Roll Up,’ ‘Young, Wild and Free’ and ‘Black and Yellow.’
Pitbull was one of the major headliners of this year’s event and while he was backstage preparing to entertain the audience, DJ Pauly D of Jersey Shore owned the tables on stage.
He lived up to his name as he brought the Cuban heat to the event and before the audience headed home, he treated them to one of the best sets of the night. Performing a medley of ‘Give Me That A*s/Sexy and I Know It’ with ‘Hey Baby.’ Mr.305 also performed ‘I Like How It Feels,’ ‘International Love,’ ‘Rain Over Me,’ ‘Calle Ocho,’ ‘On The Floor,’ ‘I Like It,’ ‘DJ Got Us Falling In Love,’ ‘Back in Time’ and ‘Give Me Everything.’
