Madonna To Wear Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada & More For ‘MDNA’ Tour
Madonna has long been in love with fashion and nothing has changed for her ‘MDNA’ World Tour, which kicked off today (May 31st) at Ramat Gan stadium in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Enlisting the designing skills of Jean Paul Gaultier, Jeremy Scott and Alexander Wang, she wears a range of provocative costumes with shoes from Prada and Miu Miu. Her backup dancers and supporting vocalists will also be dressed by fashion house Dolce & Gabbana. Fausto Puglisi designed custom vests and masks and J Brand designed custom jeans.
Costumes for the tour include a majorette outfit, a Joan of Arc-inspired medieval outfit of Swarovski Crystals, simple lingerie, a “Super Vixen” outfit and perhaps the best of all – her Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra has also been redesigned as part of a skeleton corset over modern day businesswoman’s attire.
Gaultier told WWD: “When she asked me to do a costume for her for this tour, I couldn’t refuse.” We played with the ideas of a suit and a corset. But the corset is now like a cage. [It's] a nod to the conical bra corset of the Blond Ambition tour but reinterpreted in 3-D. It’s all about masculine and feminine.”
“It’s a real journey from the first act to the fourth, and the way she constructs her shows is like a theater piece,” said Madge’s costume designer and stylist Arianne Phillips.
Phillips added: “This show is epic and bigger than anything [Madonna's] done before. There are many more costume changes. Madonna changes outfits seven or eight times and the dancers change 10 to 15 times, depending on the dancer.” “We’re taking 700 shoes on the road.”
And do you remember Madge’s ‘Truth Or Dare’ collection? Well backups will also be wearing shoes and lingerie from the upcoming line. Madonna’s kids Lourdes and Rocco are also scheduled to make multiple appearances throughout the tour.
