9July2012 American Idol Possible Judges Katy Perry, Adam Lambert, Nicki Minaj May Join ‘American Idol’ In Fall

According to E! Online, ‘American Idol’ may be seeing a revamped judges panel this fall. Sources report that while execs “don’t want her [Jennifer Lopez] to leave,” the chances are slim that she will remain on the show and in the event that her contract isn’t renewed, Adam Lambert may be the one to fill her spot.

“I don’t know if they can afford Jennifer, but they have let it be known that she has a guaranteed spot if she wants it,” a source said. “She appeals to everyone so the big bosses are in favor of keeping her on.”

“They have been talking about Adam for over a month,” said a source. “He knows what it’s like to be on the receiving end of the judges’ comments, he has a human touch, and they know they can’t go wrong if they bring him on. He would be able to bring a unique perspective to the show.”

The source has also revealed that Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler may not be returning either. “No one has signed any contracts yet and producers are currently putting out feelers and setting up meetings to see who they can get.” “We won’t know if Randy [Jackson] and Steven [Tyler] are returning until they see who else is on board.”

“Randy is great, but he’s part of the old Idol,” the source added. “They want to keep the soul of the show but have a new look, and for that reason he may well not be part of the new line up.”

As for Steven Tyler, he’s “All up in the air,” and “We shall see.”

Apart from Lambert, ‘American Idol’ execs are also considering Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Fergie and Will.I.Am as judges for season 12 of the show in an attempt to maintain healthy competition with ‘X Factor.’

A rep for Fox declined to comment on the story.
