Coldplay’s ‘Mylo Xyloto’ album debuted at No.1 in 34 countries selling six million copies and the band is looking to increase the success of the project with a six-part comic series. The Comic will tell the story of the album and it’s inspiration; Mylo Xyloto, a warrior who fights in a futuristic war.
Coldplay conceived the story with Academy Award-nominated writer and Director Mark Osborne and the Comic Series will be published by the Bongo Comics Group, which is owned by Matt Groening, the genius behind ‘The Simpsons.’
“Three years ago we had an idea with our friend Mark Osborne about a character called Mylo Xyloto –’xylo’ as in xylophone, ‘to’ as in toe,” Coldplay said in a statement. “Gradually Mylo’s story and universe came together and this ended up providing the backdrop for the album and tour. Now we’re proud to announce that early next year the story is going to come out as a six-part comic. We hope you like it. It was fun making it.”
Osborne shared more details on Mylo Xyloto describing him as “a young Silencer on the front lines of a war against sound and color in the world of Silencia. Mylo discovers that the enemy he’s been trained to hate his whole life [and] might not be the enemy after all. There will hopefully be many, many connections for people who have heard the album.”
The first issue of the six-part series will be unveiled and become available at the Comic-Con International in San Diego from July 12th-15th at the San Diego Convention Center. A limited supply of the exclusive edition of issue one will also be available through the official Coldplay store.
The full series will be available from February 2013 and can be pre-ordered via the Coldplay store.
The story of ‘Mylo Xyloto’ will also be told in the form of an animated film.
