Exclusive Interview: Borgore Dishes On Gorestep, Miley Cyrus & ‘Decisions’

Israeli producer/DJ Asaf Borgore – more popularly known as Borgore – is perhaps the most controversial figure in the world of dubstep in this day and age. Always pushing the boundaries, his unapologetic attitude and provocative lyrics paired with his lighthearted attitude have resulted in the creation of his own genre (Gorestep) that excites his ever-growing fan base like nothing else on this planet.
Influenced by urban bike riding, skateboarding, karate, various types of music and even fine porn, he made the jump from mastering traditional instruments (concert piano, drums, saxophone) to creating epic beats for all to enjoy. Of course, this transition was simply a part of his musical evolution and it just so happens that he does it better than a lot of the other people out there.
Since beginning his musical journey, he has embarked upon numerous tours, collaborated with the likes of Diplo, released plenty of successful records and has even started his own label, Buygore, which houses several high-profile international artists.
Borgore most recently collaborated with Miley Cyrus on his new single ‘Decisions,’ and we had the opportunity to sit down with the very same man who “ruined dubstep” for quite the conversation about the track. Mid-conversation, he also expressed his love for Rihanna’s new album ‘Unapologetic’ and sent his love to the fans.

Star Trident: Yo Borgore, what’s the latest?
Borgore: I’m feeling good. Just here.
Star Trident: Just to clarify for some of the people out there, you’ve got your very own genre Gorestep. How would you describe that to someone who has never heard it before?
Borgore: It’s electronic and fun. It’s hard to describe it … it’s something you need to listen to. Just like in classical music there’s a big difference between Slovinksy, which is mad crazy and Mozart, which is mad poppy.
Star Trident: So, from the time that ‘Decisions’ was released, we’ve been raping the replay button. What was it like working with Miley Cyrus on the track?
Borgore: It was incredible – she’s really fun, social and has always been there. We had a lot of fun.
Star Trident: You kept it a secret that she appeared on the track for quite a while. What sparked your decision to do that?
Borgore: I wanted to do something different and I thought it would be cool to work with someone that people wouldn’t expect me to work with and Miley’s hot so I think it was a good call.
Star Trident: Btw – Those lyrics are crazy! What’s the song all about?
Borgore: Well … the very literal meaning of the song is how much girls love eating cake but the subliminal message is how people are attracted to money and power, and in order to succeed in life you need to work hard and attract those people that are there for the right reasons.
Star Trident: While we’re on the topic of ‘Decisions,’ that music video was absolutely insane. How did you come up with that theme?
Borgore: It was kind of a joint idea. Christian Lamb, the director, wanted to do an adventure into the club and then Miley came up with the idea of using Beacher’s club, which she’s a very big fan of. My main concern is that I wanted the giant cake so everyone’s happy.
Star Trident: Did you hear that Sex.com wants Jessie Andrews and Miley Cyrus to do a scene for them? What’s your take on that?
Borgore: Yeah I’ve heard about this. I think it would be hot man, I don’t know. (laughs)
Star Trident: You just released the ‘Turn Up’ EP and the cover art is crazy. How did you come up with that concept?
Borgore: I came up with the idea but my tour manager shot and edited it. He’s a part time photographer as well. It’s a sick cover huh?
Star Trident: It really is bro!
Star Trident: So, what’s your next project?
Borgore: It was kind of a different experiment trying to release stuff all the time that sounds different but now I’m working on more Gore stuff … more stuff that I’m singing on. I’m also working on another tune with another big artist that I don’t wanna reveal right now but it’s a really cool collaboration so you can look forward to expecting more.
Star Trident: We’ll definitely keep an eye out for that track.
Star Trident: One more question before you go … Would you like to say anything to your fans?
Borgore: I just wanna thank everyone. Keep everything good vibes man.
Star Trident: Haha – Have a good one man. Thank You.
Borgore: Thank you!
