Like many of her fellow Disney graduates, Demi Lovato has rocketed to an unimaginable level of fame. At just 20 years of age, the singer-songwriter has already starred in numerous films and series, released three albums (with another one on the way), secured a spot on the ‘X Factor’ judging panel and built a dedicated fan base.
We had plenty of questions for Demi when she visited Barbados but we were most excited to ask about her upcoming album ‘DEMI,’ which hits shelves on May 14th. “I’m looking forward to my fans getting to hear the music I’ve been working on for so long and that I’ve been so passionate about,” she told us. “It’s really great. Sometimes I just listen to the songs and I’m like … I can’t believe that nobody’s heard this and I’ve been listening to it for months so I’m exited for them to finally hear it.”
Callum Wright has been sizzling in this little pot called Barbados for the past few months and tonight, we bring to you his dance-ready, self-written sophomore single titled ‘Sunrise.’
Produced by Minim (Cover Drive, GQ), the track boasts an undeniable reggae beat with escalating melodies and minimal synths. The song is upbeat and spends most of its time building you up towards the anthemic bridge.
“Girl I haven’t seen you around / gotta be from somewhere out of town / aye yaye yaye / and I’d love to hear about it / but let’s forget talk and get down to It / oh yeah yeah / now I don’t know your name / I’ve never seen your face / but there’s a question I got on my mind,” he sings over the fast-paced beat.
The chorus –“Put your hand in mine / now baby don’t be shy / let the rhythm take yuh downtown here in the moonlight / yeah just you and I / let’s dance away the night / we eye to eye won’t stop now until de sunrise / til de sunri-yi-yise / sunri-yi-yise / sunri-yi-yise” – is undeniably catchy and fun.
Many remember ‘When I See You’ songstress Fantasia Barrino as the beautiful girl who won our hearts on ‘American Idol’ years ago and among her many accomplishments, she has since won a Grammy Award for her 2010 top-seller ‘Back To Me’ and returned to the headlines for all of the good reasons.
Fast forward to 2013 and the singer has released her fourth studio album ‘Side Effects Of You,’ secured impressive promotional slots on ‘American Idol’ and ‘Good Morning America’ among others and stormed the Billboard charts.
Now, this voice will be coming to Barbados for a special show on Sunday, August 11th, 2013 at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium. Tickets for the show are limited and more information can be found here.
We’ll see you there!
Excited. This is how I felt as I made my way into Holder’s House this past weekend to watch Demi Lovato, Ne-Yo and Nikki Williams perform live for the very first time in Barbados. The international trio had been in the island for the past few days and when I spoke to them, it was clear that they were just as excited to hit the stage as I was to watch them. I was being an extreme fan boy that night – that’s extremely rare.
Thick, black clouds loomed overhead as I squeezed into the crowded grounds of the venue but thankfully, the rain decided not to fall on this particular event. This was my first time attending the annual concert and as I was promised, CHUM FM radio hosts Roger, Darren and Marilyn appeared on stage at exactly 8 o’ clock to welcome the hundreds that came out to this years show.
