Nicki Minaj graces the cover of the June/July 2013 issue of ‘Teen Vogue’ and apart from looking uber bubbly for her spread, she opens up about how people treat the music industry like it’s high school, her upbringing and her decision to ignore the critics.
Here’s what Nicki Minaj had to share:
On why she refuses to be fake: “People treat this business like it’s high school. It can absolutely feel like one big popularity contest, and you know what? I can’t be bothered. I can’t allow myself to play ridiculous games with grown adults in the industry. I can’t be nice to someone just because they’re hot right now. I can’t do it.”
On how her parents dysfunctional relationship affected her: “Every time my parents fought, my mother would have us move and I would have to go to a new school, which meant I’d have to face the task of making new friends. I dreaded it. I had butterflies in my stomach each time: Are people going to like or hate me? … Sometimes there’d be a fight, sometimes not. I let people know I wasn’t going to be pushed around.”
Rihanna’s collaboration with River Island continues and literally minutes ago, the singer previewed her upcoming Summer Collection with the mega retailer. Set to hit stores on May 25th, the new collection boasts a number of high-street inspired pieces that Rihanna and her personal designer Adam Selman collaborated on.
The summer 2013 range was created with Rih’s crew in mind. “I made a piece for everybody in my crew, we all have different body types and different tastes,” she says in the BTS clip. “Some are braver than others, but, you know, I think like that because that’s how all the women in the world are. We’re all different, we all like different things, we all have different occasions, different moods, different body types.”
Lana Del Rey is one of the most prolific artists of the past few years and she covers the Summer 2013 issue of ‘Fashion’ magazine’s Summer 2013 issue, on newsstands May 20th. She poses in labels like Sally Lapointe, Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana for fashion photographers Mark Williams and Sara Kirakawa, and opens up on a number of topics from her career to alcoholism.
Here’s what LDR had to say:
On Oscar buzz for her song ‘Young and Beautiful’: “Feeling like you’re respected among the people who do the same thing you do is incredible and necessary. I don’t believe in the school of hard knocks, although I’ve had them. All that stuff about whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger is so not true. Do you know what makes you stronger? When people treat you and your art with dignity.”
The promotional push is in full swing for Selena Gomez and those efforts have landed the ‘Come & Get It’ singer on the cover of the June 2013 issue of ‘InStyle’ magazine out on newsstands May 17th.
An ‘InStyle’ editor writes in the intro: “For music, she insists her newest, most revealing album Stars Dance—already boasting the hit single “Come and Get It,” the video for which just debuted on MTV.com—will be her last. For acting, she’s eager to shake her Disney past and establish herself as an actress with serious cred. And in love, despite a Bieber breakup ballad on her record, the pair are indeed back together, and seem to be tighter than ever.”
Here’s what Selena Gomez had to share:
On pushing boundaries: “This is a weird transition for me,” she says. “I want to keep pushing myself so I never feel settled. I don’t really know if it’s going to end up working. I’m stressed out most of the time.”

In other Bey news, the singer told Robach on ‘GMA’ that when she worked on the film, “I was actually pregnant at the time. And I thought, ‘You know, by the time this comes out my daughter will … understand it’s my voice and what an incredible, cool point.’ ”
