Miss Barbados World
The latest news regarding Miss Barbados World.
It’s a radiant morning in mid-July and we are joined at Limegrove Lifestyle Centre by the newly crowned Miss Barbados World Marielle Wilkie and her predecessor Taisha Carrington. The past few days have been hectic for Marielle as she had been making final preparations for her journey to Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China, where she will join 130 other delegates to compete for the title of Miss World so it was a pleasure to know that she could fit us into her schedule.
Our host Imogen Cooper greets the ladies at the entrance of the water courtyard and as they make their way to the set, they stop to sign autographs and pose for pictures at the request of their supporters.
The Miss Barbados World Organisation is “the estuary for forward-thinking, progressive women, destined to be the change they want to see in Barbados and by extension, the world.” Operating under the credo, “Celebrating the Bajan Woman!” it is recognized as the most prestigious beauty pageant in Barbados.
Earlier this week, the organization made an official public announcement informing the Barbadian people that they will not be holding a competition this year and will instead select an ambassador from the Delegates of 2011.
After assessing each delegate and taking into consideration “their aptitude, drive and continuation of their charity projects subsequent to the 2011 finale,” as well as “their current schedules,” the organization, it’s partners and sponsors have chosen Marielle Wilkie to be Miss Barbados World 2012.
Miss Barbados World 2011, Taisha Carrington will formally handover the title during a cocktail gala in June 2012. The Miss World 2012 competition is scheduled to take place in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China in August 2012.
